In a recent interview with The Sun at his Jos country home, Tapgun accused Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, of working relentlessly to bring down the PDP. Tapgun claimed that Wike’s bitterness stems from being denied the vice-presidential ticket in both the 2019 and 2023 elections.

Tapgun asserted, “After failing to secure the vice-presidential ticket, Wike is doing everything in his power to destroy the PDP.”

The former governor also accused Wike of using his influence and resources to manipulate prominent members of the PDP, further destabilizing the party. According to Tapgun, Wike’s actions are part of a broader agenda to cause internal collapse and destabilize the PDP.

Tapgun went on to highlight what he described as unconstitutional practices within the party, specifically citing the extended tenures of acting Chairman Umar Damagum and former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. Tapgun claimed that despite knowing their terms had expired, both men continued to hold their positions, playing a central role in the party’s internal turmoil.

He pointed out that the dysfunction within the PDP was being exploited by those in power, which he believed was weakening the party and its structure. Tapgun, a former minister and Nigeria’s ambassador to Kenya, expressed grave concern about the PDP’s future, warning that the party’s failure to resolve its internal conflicts would hinder its ability to mount a viable challenge against the ruling administration in the 2027 elections.
