According to sources who spoke with The Punch, the move has angered several key groups within the party, including the PDP Governors’ Forum, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), the Board of Trustees (BoT), and other stakeholders — thereby reigniting tensions that had previously calmed.

A senior PDP official, speaking anonymously, revealed that leaders from the South-East caucus, along with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, BoT Chairman, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, and some NWC members were displeased by the unilateral nature of the decision.

“There’s renewed frustration over how Saraki handled the matter. He met with only a few NWC members and pushed for Anyanwu’s return without consulting the entire committee, the full NWC, or the governors who had mandated the reconciliation effort,” the source said.

Governors including Makinde, Mbah, Lawal, and Diri reportedly view the move as an attempt to undermine their authority and weaken their influence within the party.

“Even within the NWC, there’s unease. They expected to be briefed or consulted before such a major decision was made. Things had remained stable after the governors nominated and the NWC confirmed Koshoedo as National Secretary — until Saraki’s selective meeting stirred the waters again,” the source added.

He stressed that the primary concern among the governors, BoT leadership, and several NWC members is maintaining peace and unity within the PDP. They believe the South-East’s input in the nomination process should be respected, rather than sacrificed for political maneuvering.

Another party chieftain also confirmed to The Punch that the PDP had already submitted the name of the Deputy National Secretary, Koshoedo, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the officially recognised scribe.

“As of Wednesday, Koshoedo’s name had been sent to INEC. That’s the official position. I’m not aware of any alternative arrangement,” the insider said.

Yet another source reaffirmed that the Saraki committee’s endorsement of Anyanwu was met with significant resistance from various party leaders.
