Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a suspected militia member identified as Hosea David, the youth chairman of Nchya community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, following a confrontation with security personnel enforcing a curfew.

David, 53, was reportedly arrested at about 6 p.m. on October 25, 2026, after some youths allegedly resisted a joint security team carrying out curfew enforcement operations in the community.

According to security sources, the youths barricaded a road and attacked the security personnel with stones and other dangerous objects. Sporadic gunshots were also reportedly fired from concealed locations during the confrontation.

The troops subsequently used necessary force to disperse the crowd and restore order in the area.

During the operation, the suspect was allegedly found in possession of a locally fabricated firearm and nine rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The confrontation also reportedly led to the destruction of the driver’s door glass of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) vehicle attached to the security convoy.

According to Bush Radio Academy, David remains in military custody pending further action by the relevant authorities.

Security personnel have continued to maintain a strong presence in the area to prevent further attacks and ensure the enforcement of the curfew amid heightened security concerns across parts of Plateau State.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies under Operation Enduring Peace to curb violence and maintain law and order in affected communities.

Troops are also continuing routine patrols across the Joint Operations Area, with a focus on protecting schools, places of worship and other critical national infrastructure.

The military has stated that troops’ morale and operational efficiency remain satisfactory as security operations continue across the state.
