In a joint statement signed by MOSOP’s three factional presidents—Prince Nuyete Biira, Fegalo Nsuke, and Engr. Olu Andah Wai-Ogosu—the group criticized the lack of consultation, calling the meeting “clandestine” and warning it could undermine ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts in the region.

“While we are not opposed to the resumption of oil activities in Ogoni, given the crisis’s toll on our people, we expected proper consultation and inclusivity in discussions on such a critical issue,” the statement read.

The group emphasized that any meaningful discussion about oil resumption cannot succeed without MOSOP’s involvement. “It is surprising and unacceptable that MOSOP learned about this meeting through the media,” they added, reiterating their role as a key stakeholder in Ogoni matters.

Highlighting recent achievements in fostering unity during the January 4, 2025 Ogoni Day celebration, MOSOP warned that excluding them could jeopardize progress made in uniting the Ogoni people and building consensus on the oil resumption campaign.

“MOSOP has made significant strides in restoring peace and unity in the region. A non-inclusive meeting risks undermining these efforts and derailing the trust we have built,” the statement cautioned.

The factional leaders urged all stakeholders, both within and outside Ogoni, to support the ongoing peace process for a sustainable resolution to the region’s challenges. They also called on Ogoni residents to remain calm and law-abiding.

“MOSOP is deeply concerned that the outcome of this meeting might trigger civil unrest in Ogoni and derail the progress made in peace and reconciliation, which is crucial for meaningful development.
