The session, scheduled by Justice Binta Nyako, will address Akpabio’s claims against Akpoti-Uduaghan as well as her own contempt charge against Akpabio, the Senate, and other involved parties for allegedly disregarding an earlier court ruling.
Justice Nyako had set the date for today’s hearing following Akpabio’s contempt claim, and the court will also examine the previous contempt charge brought by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Akpabio and the Senate.
The legal confrontation between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan began in February after a contentious disagreement during a Senate plenary session over seating arrangements. This dispute was followed by Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio in a televised interview.
In the wake of these accusations, Akpoti-Uduaghan sought a restraining order from the Federal High Court on March 4, blocking the Senate’s Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions Committee from investigating her. Despite the court order, the Senate proceeded with her suspension two days later, citing a report of gross misconduct.
