The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, announced this development in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.
Nwachukwu emphasized that the present leadership of the Nigerian Army places great importance on the well-being of troops and considers it a fundamental aspect of the COAS Command Philosophy designed to motivate the force.
He stated, “The Nigerian Army takes these allegations very seriously, and the COAS has directed an immediate investigation into the complaints to verify their accuracy and uncover the circumstances surrounding them.”
Nwachukwu assured the public and all army personnel that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain the facts of the allegations.
He noted that the Nigerian army has always placed a high priority on the welfare of troops, including their nutrition, and has implemented a comprehensive feeding system for troops, especially those stationed on the frontlines.
He added, “However, we acknowledge that there may be isolated incidents where shortcomings occur, and we are committed to addressing them effectively.”
