Femi Babafemi, spokesperson for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), reported that the convicted individuals were found guilty of trafficking in cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, and opioids. These 19 convicts were part of a broader group of 414 drug traffickers and dealers sentenced by the Federal High Court in various locations, including Benue, Bauchi, Edo, Lagos, Ogun, Gombe, and Abuja, between July 1 and July 31, 2024, following the NDLEA’s investigations.

Babafemi detailed the cases of the three kingpins:

1. **Bolanle Dauda**, 50, was arrested on May 25, 2024, during an NDLEA raid on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as he attempted to transport drugs to Ghana. Dauda was found with 42 blocks of cocaine, totaling 47.5 kilograms, and an additional eight blocks (10 kilograms) were recovered from his residence. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison or a N30 million fine by Justice Ambrose Allagoa of the Federal High Court in Lagos on July 19, 2024.

2. **Ikeh Ifeanyi**, 34, was apprehended at Lagos Island’s Idumota market with 1,100 ampoules of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid much more potent than heroin. Fentanyl is linked to numerous overdose deaths globally. Ifeanyi was sentenced to 14 years in prison or a N2 million fine by Justice Kehinde Ogundare on July 4, 2024.

3. **Christian Anyanwu** was arrested on November 26, 2022, with 1.4 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in custard tins bound for Brazil. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison by Justice Yellin Bogoro on July 12, 2024, with four years of mandatory imprisonment without an option of fine.

These sentences mark a significant enforcement effort by the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and its associated harms.
