Tinubu Strikes Major Deal: $600 Million Investment In Seaport Secured Alongside Maersk

President Bola Tinubu successfully secured a substantial $600 million investment from A.P. Moller-Maersk, a prominent Danish shipping and logistics company. This achievement took place during a meeting between Tinubu and Robert Maersk Uggla, the Chairman of A.P. Moller-Maersk, held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth, and Energy for Development in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, Uggla revealed the company’s intention to invest $600 million in Nigeria to enhance container shipping services within Nigerian ports. He underscored Maersk’s extensive involvement in Nigeria and expressed confidence in the country’s future, noting previous investments exceeding $2 billion in Nigerian ports and related ventures.

Uggla highlighted the potential for Nigerian ports to accommodate larger container ships, emphasizing the necessity of expanding port infrastructure to meet this demand and reduce logistics costs. He stressed the importance of enhancing facilities, particularly in Lagos, to establish a larger hub for logistics services. Uggla conveyed the company’s belief in Nigeria’s potential and its commitment to investing $600 million in existing facilities to accommodate bigger ships.

He expressed a vision for Nigeria to possess top-tier port facilities, given its status as the most populous country in Africa, and reiterated the company’s eagerness to invest further. Uggla affirmed ongoing dialogue with Nigerian authorities to explore additional investment opportunities.
