Condolences have poured in from various quarters, including the National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and members of the Kano State Government.
The statement read:
“This is a deeply heartbreaking moment for us as a government. Bunkure was a committed professional whose expertise was set to propel our administration’s developmental vision. His untimely passing is a tremendous loss.”
Bunkure had been sworn in as Special Adviser on Works just a day before his death, following Governor Yusuf’s announcement of new appointments and reassignments aimed at improving governance across the state.
NNPP Faces Turbulence Amid Leadership Disputes
Meanwhile, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has faced significant internal strife throughout 2024, undermining its ability to consolidate gains after the Supreme Court affirmed Abba Kabir Yusuf as Kano State Governor.
Hopes of unifying the party to strengthen its position as a formidable opposition platform were dashed by leadership disputes and factional rivalries. The crisis deepened when loyalists of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso introduced a new party logo featuring a red-white-red design with a book and graduation cap.
The Boniface Aniebonam-led faction rejected the change, insisting on retaining the original basket-of-fruits logo, symbolizing abundance.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Agbo Major, the Aniebonam-recognized National Chairman, declared:
“Our party remains unified with one logo—a basket of fruits atop the Nigerian map. I am the only National Chairman. The Kwankwasiyya group is not a political party.”
