Twist In Osun Politics! NULGE Set To Drop Legal Battle Against APC, Council Bosses
The Osun State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has officially filed a notice to withdraw its lawsuit against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and local government chairmen elected during the disputed council elections held on October 15, 2022.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The notice of discontinuance, dated June 25, 2025, was submitted to the Osun State High Court in Ilesa and signed by the union’s legal counsel, Musbau Adetunbi (SAN). A copy of the document, obtained by Punch on Tuesday, was also served to Fatima Raji, representing the APC.
The legal dispute stems from a lingering crisis between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Osun State Government and the opposition APC, which has significantly disrupted local governance. Since APC-backed chairmen took office, federal allocations to the local councils have reportedly been withheld, and NULGE members have boycotted work in protest over what they described as the illegal occupation of council secretariats.
NULGE’s original suit (No. HIK/5/2025) named the APC, its elected chairmen, and several security agencies — including the Inspector-General of Police, the Osun State Police Commissioner, the DSS Director-General, and the NSCDC Commandant-General — as defendants. The Governor of Osun State and the State Attorney General were also listed in the suit.
According to the union, the decision to withdraw the case was influenced by the June 13, 2025, judgment of the Court of Appeal, which they believe addressed the core legal issues raised in their suit. The withdrawal application was submitted with a copy of the appellate ruling, referenced as Appeal No. CA/AK/15/2025.
During the court session on Tuesday, the application to withdraw was moved by S. Ayeni, who stood in for Adetunbi. However, APC counsel Muhydeen Adeoye opposed the move, arguing that a case cannot be withdrawn based on a judgment from another case that is not directly related.
Justice M. Agboola, presiding over the matter, instructed the respondent to file a formal objection and adjourned the case to November 25, 2025, for further proceedings.
