The decision was conveyed in a resolution signed on Thursday by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Dr. Enemi George.
George explained that the move followed resolutions reached during a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 8, 2026. According to him, both the governor and his deputy undertook to avoid actions that could violate the Constitution and laws of Rivers State and to promptly address any previous breaches.
He stated, “This resolution stems from agreements reached at the meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, February 8, 2026, as well as the filing of Notices of Discontinuance in suits OYHC/7/CS/2026 and OYHC/6/CS/2026 by the Governor and Deputy Governor on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.”
As a sign of goodwill and respect for the President, George noted that the lawmakers withdrew two pending appeals before the Court of Appeal—Appeal No. CA/PH/3/2026 and Appeal No. CA/PH/32/2026—on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
He added that the governor and his deputy have committed to strictly observing constitutional provisions going forward and to taking immediate corrective steps where necessary.
Expressing confidence in the agreement, George said its faithful implementation would strengthen the rule of law and promote stability in Rivers State.
He also recalled that during plenary on Thursday, the House resolved to suspend the impeachment proceedings previously initiated against Governor Fubara and Prof. Odu.
Finally, George appreciated the people of Rivers State for their continued support and prayers for the 10th Assembly, while commending President Tinubu for his leadership and what he described as a fatherly role in resolving the impasse.
