Speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, during a five-day training session for 56 master trainers from the southern states, including Kwara and Kogi, Bobboyi highlighted that the programme represents a major advance in improving educational quality and access.
He explained that the training of these Master Trainers is a key component of the Effective Schools Programme (ESP) implementation. The initiative seeks to equip Nigerian children with essential resources for better learning outcomes and the development of 21st-century skills.
Bobboyi revealed that UBEC is piloting the programme in 111 schools, with three schools per senatorial zone and three in the Federal Capital Territory. These schools were chosen to lead the programme’s rollout.
“Your role will be to extend this training to the teachers in these 111 schools,” Bobboyi stated. “This aligns with our goals to advance smart education at the basic level and build a strong foundation for acquiring relevant technological skills.”
The ESP aims to enhance instructional tools and practices to optimize both teaching and learning experiences. The programme also includes equipping schools with ICT equipment and alternative power sources to support technology-assisted education.
Bobboyi further noted that UBEC has established 37 smart schools, one in each state and the FCT, with some already operational. Additionally, a Digital Resource Centre has been set up and inaugurated.
Reaffirming UBEC’s dedication to providing effective basic education, Bobboyi stressed the importance of creating an environment that supports functional learning for Nigeria’s school-age children.
At the event, Nureni Adeniran, Executive Chairman of OYOSUBEB, stated that his board has embraced the smart education initiative and is currently recruiting 7,000 digitally literate primary school teachers to support this vision.
