UK-Based Nigerian Nurse Jailed For Neglect After 10-Week-Old Baby Found Dead....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A Nigerian nurse living in the UK has been sentenced to three years in prison after leaving her 10-week-old baby alone to go to work. The nurse, 28-year-old Ruth Auta, left her infant in her nurse’s accommodation without a childminder for eight hours on December 20, 2022, while she worked her shift.
According to reports from Mail Online, Auta returned from work to find her son lifeless in his cot. She immediately called emergency services, telling the operators that her baby was not breathing. Despite efforts to revive him, the baby was pronounced dead an hour later. Medical tests indicated that the child may have overheated due to the layers of clothing and bedding he had been wrapped in.
Initially, Auta told police that she had collected her son, Joshua, from a childminder after work, fed him, and then placed him on her bed. She claimed that when she woke up after falling asleep beside him, she found him unresponsive. However, during a later police interview, Auta chose not to answer questions and was released on bail pending further investigation.
Her story began to unravel when police obtained CCTV footage showing Auta leaving and entering her accommodation on the day of the incident without the baby. Investigators also uncovered text messages in which Auta asked the childminder to lie, claiming she had been looking after Joshua on that day. However, the childminder revealed to authorities that she hadn’t seen the baby for several days.
Auta was charged with child cruelty and pleaded guilty at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 24, 2024. The court adjourned the case for sentencing, but Auta attempted to flee the country on June 6, purchasing a one-way ticket to Nigeria. She was arrested at Gatwick Airport before she could board the flight.
On September 10, 2024, Auta was sentenced to three years in prison at Bolton Crown Court for her role in the tragic death of her infant son.
