Under EFCC Watch: Farouk Aliyu Reveals What Really Happened Between APC Govt And States
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Farouk Aliyu, has rejected claims that the ruling party enters into secret agreements with state governors ahead of political defections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Aliyu made the clarification during an interview on ARISE Television while responding to allegations that anti-corruption agencies were being used to target opposition figures.
He maintained that actions taken by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) are based strictly on allegations supported by evidence, not on political affiliation.
According to him, there is no arrangement between the Federal Government and any state aimed at enforcing political alignment. He stressed that Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu was entirely voluntary.
Aliyu noted that while the APC had hoped to win the recent gubernatorial election in Anambra State, the party was defeated and accepted the outcome as part of the democratic process.
Addressing concerns about the emergence of a one-party state, he said such claims were subjective, emphasizing that there was no coercion involved in political realignments.
He explained that governors who choose to associate with the APC do so of their own free will and are not pressured to defect or align with the ruling party.
Aliyu further dismissed accusations of victimisation by anti-corruption agencies, arguing that anyone facing investigation should first consider whether there are valid allegations against them.
He pointed out that even senior members of the APC have faced prosecution by the EFCC and ICPC, insisting that this proves the agencies are not being weaponised.
According to him, opposition parties are free to make such allegations, but there is no evidence to support claims that the APC-led government is using anti-graft agencies to persecute political opponents.
