UNICEF Report Sparks Warning From Peter Obi To Tinubu: Act Swiftly To Prevent Public Anger....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential hopeful from the Labour Party (LP), has expressed deep concern in response to a warning by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) about the imminent threat of acute hunger and severe food insecurity for 31.5 million Nigerians between June and August 2024.

Highlighting Nigeria’s disconcerting position as one of the 20 most hunger-stricken nations globally, ranked 109 out of 125 countries on the Global Hunger Index, Obi stressed the urgency of government intervention to ramp up food production. He emphasized the need to address the escalating hunger crisis and the resulting public discontent.

In a social media post on Wednesday, the former governor of Anambra State lamented the compounding challenges faced by the nation, including a soaring cost of living and a high inflation rate.

Obi expressed sorrow over the fact that a significant number of Nigerian households are now allocating almost their entire income to food expenses, leaving little for other crucial family needs.

Obi urged immediate action to counter the looming threat, drawing attention to the fact that a similar warning was issued in January 2023 by the Cadre Harmonisé, a UNICEF publication, indicating the risk of hunger for nearly 25 million Nigerians between June and August 2023 without prompt intervention.

Recalling his past concerns, Obi stated, “I was very concerned and worried like every other Nigerian, and I then called on the government of the day to take urgent steps and stem the tide of impending hunger in the nation.”

By the end of 2023, the reported number of Nigerians at risk of hunger had increased to 26.5 million for the year 2024, further intensifying the gravity of the situation and prompting Obi’s renewed call for decisive action.
