The Abia State Government has strongly rebuked the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, over comments comparing Governor Alex Otti’s performance with that of his predecessors, Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Kalu had alleged on Sunday that monthly FAAC allocations to Abia under Otti had risen to between ₦38 billion and ₦40 billion, compared to the ₦4 billion reportedly received by previous administrations.

Reacting in a statement, Governor Otti’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, dismissed Kalu’s remarks as misleading. He clarified that total allocations to Abia State and its 17 local governments in the first eight months of 2025 stood at ₦125 billion, not ₦304 billion as Kalu’s figures suggested.

“Abia’s year-to-date FAAC allocation (January–August 2025), including LGAs, is ₦125 billion. If we were to rely on Kalu’s false claim of ₦38 billion monthly, the figure should have been ₦304 billion,” Ekeoma stated.

Ekeoma further argued that Kalu’s comments showed a poor understanding of economic and financial realities, stressing that the high cost of project execution under Otti’s government is largely driven by exchange rate fluctuations, since many materials are purchased in foreign currency.

The government also accused the Deputy Speaker of launching a politically motivated media attack on Governor Otti, allegedly driven by his undeclared governorship ambition.

Additionally, it highlighted reforms in the civil service, noting that the workforce has grown from 31,000 under former Governor Ikpeazu to about 67,000 under Otti, following the abolition of the “core” and “non-core” classifications. This figure, it added, excludes the 5,349 newly recruited teachers.
