The group asserts that the decision aligns with the broader interests of the Warri Kingdom rather than serving the self-interest of a select few individuals seeking to control the community’s resources.
In a statement released to the press in Warri, Delta State, WUSN emphasized that the Olu of Warri’s intention to integrate the host community trust into the Iwere Development Master Plan is a commendable step towards the kingdom’s overall progress….CONTINUE READING
They urged all concerned parties to support this initiative, countering ongoing opposition efforts led by a minority of individuals in certain communities.
WUSN also called upon the Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to promptly intervene in the matter to prevent the situation from escalating into violence and disorder in the affected communities, which have witnessed protests against international oil companies (IOCs).
Chief Frank Onoriode and Comrade Dafe Okpako, Chairman and Secretary of WUSN, respectively, signed the statement, highlighting the need for caution and restraint in addressing the ongoing disputes related to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) between the affected communities and IOCs, including Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
They stressed that the tensions generated by these disputes pose a significant threat to peace, security, and property in Warri and its surrounding areas.
