Multiple air strikes were conducted on the locations where IPOB fighters were believed to be hiding. These areas included Mother Valley Orsumughu in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State and Aku Ihube in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to a statement released by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF spokesperson, the air operations were initiated in response to credible intelligence reports indicating that the fighters were planning to launch attacks on residents and neighboring states in the region. Some of the targeted sites were suspected to be their armories.
The statement explained, “On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, aircraft under the Air Component of Operation Udo Ka II carried out several strikes on IPOB/ESN locations at Mother Valley Orsumughu in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State and at Aku Ihube in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. The strikes at both locations achieved their intended outcome and were deemed effective.”
Gabkwet also disclosed that air strikes had successfully destroyed IPOB fighters’ camps in Imo State, where they were planning to hold meetings.
“Air strikes were also conducted on the same day, in close coordination with surface forces, at IPOB/ESN hideout camps in Aku Ihube in Imo State after a comprehensive analysis of intelligence regarding the terrorists’ gathering at their hideout. Consequently, air strikes were also authorized to target the hideout. The targets were successfully engaged in successive strikes,” the statement added.
