In an interview with BBC Pidgin published on Saturday afternoon, Wike reaffirmed that Fubara is still his political protégé.

According to him, those backing Fubara are now embarrassed, as they are steadily losing their grip on the political situation.

“That is not a battle,” Wike said. “Fubara is my boy, my son. Why would I fight him?

I’m only confronting those trying to take what they didn’t work for. If you don’t defeat them, they’ll keep feeling powerful. Now, they’re ashamed because they’re being defeated — they’re the ones pushing Fubara.”

Meanwhile, Wike also addressed rumors about his health, dismissing claims that he was seriously ill.

“Do I look sick to you?” he asked during the interview. “Looking at me, would you even think I’m above 30? I’m very fine.”

On the topic of preparing his son for a political future, Wike responded confidently:

“What’s wrong with that?”

Earlier in April, reports surfaced alleging that Wike collapsed at a function in the Presidential Villa and was flown abroad for urgent medical treatment. However, two days later, he appeared publicly during a Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu, looking healthy and energetic — effectively shutting down the speculation.
