Why The Silence?’ Expert Accuses Gbajabiamila Over Nigeria’s Insecurity Crisis
A retired security expert, Commodore Promise Dappa, has faulted the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, over what he described as his silence on Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Dappa made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television while discussing security intelligence in Nigeria and possible pathways to stability ahead of 2026. He argued that practical solutions to the country’s insecurity challenges already exist within the Presidency.
According to him, Gbajabiamila, during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives, organised a far-reaching national security retreat that produced a detailed and actionable communiqué.
“There are basic steps that need to be taken. I want to tell President Bola Tinubu that the solution to this insecurity problem is right there in his office,” Dappa said.
He added, “When his Chief of Staff was Speaker, he convened a comprehensive security retreat, and the communiqué issued afterwards addressed virtually everything that needs to be done. All the points I have raised are contained in that document. So why would he now be so close to power and remain silent? That is deeply unfortunate.”
Dappa also referenced the position earlier taken by the current Minister of Defence during his time as Chief of Defence Staff, when he warned that Nigeria’s security cannot be guaranteed without securing its borders.
“At the time, he spoke out on border security, even at the risk of his job, and was heavily criticised for allegedly attacking the government. Today, border security is still not adequately reflected in the budget. The question is, when will we begin to take border security seriously?” he asked.
