In October 2023, President Bola Tinubu granted approval for the establishment of the CSC for the FCT, a move that was initially disclosed by Wike. The minister clarified that the creation of the civil service commission aims to facilitate career progression for civil servants within the FCT Administration, allowing them to ascend to the position of permanent secretaries. Notably, the current career progression within the FCT civil service terminates at the directorship level.
Wike expressed optimism about the forthcoming establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission, stating, “Very soon, the FCT Civil Service Commission will be announced. This has never happened before.” He underscored the positive intentions of President Tinubu for the FCT and urged the public to defend Tinubu’s mandate, asserting that he means well for the entire country.
Highlighting the practicality of the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu, Wike emphasized the tangible changes being implemented, even in rural areas. While acknowledging that progress may not be as rapid as expected, he urged Nigerians to maintain hope in the positive transformations underway.
Wike attributed the achievements of the FCT administration to the unwavering support of President Tinubu, stating, “We are doing well because Mr President is behind us. Every request we make, he has always given to us. So, for us, we don’t have any excuse not to do what we are supposed to do.”
Addressing broader societal challenges, the minister emphasized the collaborative efforts between the FCT administration and area council chairmen, transcending political party differences. He stressed the need for unity in addressing issues such as poverty and insecurity, stating, “Poverty does not know the political party you belong to. So, we must work together to fight poverty. Insecurity does not know whether you are a rich man’s son or a poor man’s son. So, we must work together to fight insecurity.
