Wike’s Remarks On Youth Employment Draw Fire From Atiku’s AidePaul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has condemned Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for his initiative to empower youths in Abuja as commercial vehicle drivers. He emphasized that many youths engage in commercial driving not by choice, but due to a challenging economic environment that forces them to seek survival. Ibe’s comments followed Wike’s recent announcement of distributing cars to some youths for commercial use. In his speech, Wike encouraged the beneficiaries to take pride in their roles, arguing that many Nigerians who initially reject taxi jobs at home accept them when abroad.

Ibe, however, strongly disagreed with Wike’s stance, urging the government to provide better opportunities for Nigerians, especially the youth, instead of relegating them to low-paying jobs. He stated, “This is a big fat lie. Nigerian youths did not create this economic situation; it’s the result of misguided policies by those in power.”

He added, “Many youths are forced into driving taxis, whether through Uber or Bolt, but is this really all we want for them? Nigerian youths are capable of much more. Their limitations stem from those who continue to hinder their potential.
