Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed suggested that Atiku take on a mentoring role and support a younger candidate in the next race.
Baba-Ahmed argued that backing a more dynamic and youthful figure would provide the necessary edge to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stated, “If I were to speak to Atiku, I would tell him – Sir, you’ve made your mark, you’ve upheld the democratic process and your name has been etched in gold. It’s time to step aside for a younger person. Don’t run in 2027, play a fatherly role.”
Baba-Ahmed also emphasized that choosing a younger candidate, free from past controversies and health issues, would significantly improve the chances of defeating the APC.
He further criticized the APC for being infiltrated by opportunists, claiming that many recent defections to the party were motivated by personal ambitions, including seeking protection from anti-graft agencies. “The APC is attracting the wrong kind of people. All these defections are about seeking positions or fleeing the EFCC. The party is becoming a refuge for liabilities,” he added.
