The Nigerian Military has disclosed the successful rescue operation of kidnapped students from Kuriga, Kaduna State, revealing the collaborative efforts with local authorities and government agencies that led to their safe return in Zamfara State.
In an announcement made by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, it was revealed that the students, abducted on March 7, 2024, were liberated in the early hours of March 24, 2024.
The statement outlined that a total of 137 hostages, consisting of 76 females and 61 males, were rescued and would be transferred to the Kaduna State Government for further assistance.
The rescue operation was initiated following reports of a terrorist attack on LEA School Kuriga in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The military, in collaboration with various governmental bodies, coordinated efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted students.
Furthermore, Major General Buba noted that in a separate incident on March 21, 2024, 16 pupils (Almajiris) along with a woman who were held captive in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State were also rescued and handed over to the state government.
