2027 Countdown Begins As Pat Utomi Reveals Peter Obi’s Presidential Plans
Renowned political economist, Professor Pat Utomi, has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will contest the 2027 presidential election, stressing that he would withdraw his support if Obi accepts a vice-presidential slot.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Utomi made the assertion on Thursday during an interview on Politics Today, aired on Channels Television.
“I can tell you categorically that Peter Obi will run for president. The day he agrees to become someone’s vice president, I will walk away from his corner. I say this with absolute certainty,” he said.
Obi, who placed third in the 2023 general election with nearly six million votes, formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday at an event in Enugu.
At the gathering, Obi described his move as the beginning of a mission to “rescue our country and place it on the path of proper socio-economic development.”
The defection has, however, sparked debate and speculation, particularly regarding possible internal tensions within the ADC, which also includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar among its prominent figures. Questions have also been raised about the party’s presidential zoning arrangement.
Utomi further advocated for an age limit on presidential aspirants, arguing that individuals above the age of 70 should be barred from contesting executive offices.
“The Nigerian presidency has effectively become a retirement home where people go for the state to pay their medical bills. That is unacceptable,” he said.
He added that many leaders lack the physical capacity required for effective governance, describing recent administrations as largely “government-in-absentia.”
“I am determined to campaign across the country to ensure that no one above 70 years of age runs for an executive position—whether as governor or president,” Utomi said.
