The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully prosecuted and secured the conviction of 37 individuals involved in internet fraud between November and December 2023. Others were convicted by Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Justices A.A. Babawale, A.A. Akinyemi, and S.O. Adeniyi of the Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta. The convicted individuals, arraigned on separate one-count charges between November and December 2023, pleaded guilty to the charges presented before them.

The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, stated that the convictions resulted in sentences ranging from one month of community service to one year of imprisonment. Notable among the convicted were individuals like Oyelakin Collins Ayomide, Eyamekware Gabriel Cleverly, and Aladelusi Temitope Matthew. The charges against them included selling hacked Facebook accounts and engaging in false representation for fraudulent activities.

The statement revealed that the courts ordered the convicts to restitute their victims and forfeit items, including seven exotic cars, to the Federal Government of Nigeria. The individuals had been arrested by EFCC operatives for various internet-related offenses, and the convictions came after thorough investigations and legal proceedings.
