Jigawa State Police Commissioner A.T. Abdullahi revealed the update in Dutse on Thursday. He explained that the arrests were made in response to the destruction and theft of public and private property during the protests.

“We arrested 400 individuals in connection with the protests, and 390 have already been prosecuted. The remaining cases are still pending,” Abdullahi stated.

The violence impacted 10 local government areas, including Kiyaye, Hadeja, Kazaure, Kaugama, Malammadori, and Gumel. Notable incidents included the looting of fertilizer stores in Babura and Hadeja LGAs.

Abdullahi commended the police force for their efforts in managing the situation and recovering some of the stolen items.

In related news, organizers of the August 1-10 protests in Lagos have declared the movement a success despite unmet demands. Protest leader Hassan Taiwo noted that while 15 people were arrested, they were subsequently released thanks to a team of pro bono lawyers.

The Lagos protest, part of the broader #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement, saw significant disruption, including partial strikes and halted traffic. The protests also led to President Bola Tinubu addressing the nation on August 4, 2024.
