In his address, Tinubu emphasized the importance of investing in research and development, asserting that the continent must cultivate its own solutions rather than relying on external sources. He pointed out the challenges facing Africa, including inadequate healthcare infrastructure and ineffective judicial systems, and called for a shift towards internal solutions.

“Why do we face healthcare crises if our doctors and nurses cannot thrive here? Why are our judicial systems still outdated?” Tinubu asked. He argued that true development starts with looking inward and leveraging Africa’s own resources and talent.

Tinubu praised President Teodoro Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea for hosting him and expressed enthusiasm for the strengthened ties between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea. He stressed that peace and stability are crucial for Africa’s progress, noting that conflicts in regions like the Congo and the Sahel require urgent, collective action.

“We understand what needs to be done; the challenge is in taking action. The time to act is now,” Tinubu declared. He reiterated the importance of fostering peace to achieve development and called for increased collaboration between African nations to tackle issues such as piracy, climate change, and food insecurity.

President Mbasogo welcomed Tinubu and underscored the significance of the visit, which included signing an agreement on the Gulf of Guinea gas pipeline project. He highlighted the need for deeper cooperation between the two countries and broader engagement with the African Union and the United Nations to address continent-wide challenges.

Both leaders agreed on the need to strengthen their bilateral relationship and enhance mutual efforts to address Africa’s pressing issues.
