In an interview with NAN in Yola on Tuesday, Dr. Celine Laori, Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), highlighted the recent severe flooding in Madagali, Demsa, and Numan Local Government Areas as a serious warning for those in vulnerable areas.

Laori reported that the flood had impacted 21 communities across these three local government areas, causing six fatalities and displacing over 12,961 individuals. She described the flood as catastrophic, noting extensive damage to infrastructure, including bridges, houses, shops, healthcare facilities, schools, and farmlands.

In Madagali, over 10,264 people across 11 communities were affected, with many now residing in nine different shelters. In Numan, approximately 1,113 individuals were impacted, with 206 displaced across five communities and currently housed in two camps. Demsa saw 1,584 people affected in five communities.

The government has promptly provided relief items to the victims, including food and non-food supplies such as rice, maize, vegetable oil, mattresses, blankets, hygiene kits, and clothing for all ages.

Dr. Laori also urged traditional leaders to assist in raising awareness among their communities to help protect lives and property. Additionally, she appealed to Non-Governmental Organizations and affluent individuals to support the government’s efforts in providing aid to the flood victims.
