The Police in Jigawa State have apprehended a 40-year-old tea vendor, Abdulrashibu Ya’u, following the death of a boy in Dutse Local Government Area. According to a resident who spoke with DAILY POST, the incident occurred on Monday around 5:00 pm in Sararai village. Neighbors reportedly heard the boy crying for help but were unable to intervene because the door was locked. DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the police spokesperson, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST. He detailed that the village head of Sararai village reported the incident, noting that Abdulrashibu Ya’u had beaten Hassan Garba, also from Sararai, to death over theft allegations.

Upon receiving the report, a police patrol team went to the scene, arrested Ya’u, and transported the victim to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital. However, the attending doctor confirmed the boy was deceased upon arrival. The body was examined, photographed, and later released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.

During interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, Ya’u admitted to assaulting the deceased, stating that the theft had caused him considerable distress and that he had previously informed the boy’s parents, but no action was taken. Ya’u confessed to binding the boy with a rope and beating him with a stick.

DSP Shiisu stated that Ya’u will face legal action and be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
