Naija News reports that the Action Peoples Party (APP) secured 22 out of the 23 chairmanship positions, with the remaining seat, Etche Local Government Area, won by the Action Alliance. The results were announced by the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd).

In an interview with Vanguard, Wabara expressed his dismay, noting that this was the first time in recent history that the ruling party in Rivers State, which the PDP has controlled since 1999, lost its grassroots influence to lesser-known parties.

“This is unprecedented in recent local government elections, where the ruling party and the governor’s party lost their grassroots structure. The PDP has shot itself in the leg. Looking deeper, it indicates that technically and literally, the PDP has lost Rivers State,” Wabara explained.

He added that the warning signs were clear, but party leaders chose to ignore them. Wabara also suggested that the PDP’s chances of reclaiming Rivers State in the 2027 elections are slim. “We saw this coming and warned the key players, but instead of listening, we were ridiculed. Now, the consequences are evident for all to see,” he lamented.

However, Wabara emphasized that despite the setback, the PDP can still learn from this experience and reposition itself for the future. “I believe we’ve learned a hard lesson, but it’s not too late. We need to come together, resolve our differences, and work towards emerging stronger in 2027,” he concluded.
