In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed reports claiming Adeleke never considered defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC as false.

Olabisi disclosed that APC leaders at the national level informed Governor Adeleke that he would not be granted an automatic ticket to contest the governorship under the APC platform. Instead, he would have to participate in the party’s primary process alongside other aspirants.

He accused Adeleke of misleading PDP stakeholders by denying any plans to switch parties. At a recent PDP stakeholders’ meeting, Adeleke reportedly described rumors of his defection as “fake news spread by those threatened by our exceptional leadership performance in the state.”

Reacting to this, Olabisi expressed disappointment that Adeleke failed to admit the truth, especially considering the behind-the-scenes efforts made to facilitate his defection.

“Few people are aware of how some South-West governors and influential business figures discreetly tried to package Adeleke’s move to the APC. His late-night visits, including one to Chief Bisi Akande in Ibadan, are still fresh in the minds of the public,” he said.

Olabisi questioned Adeleke’s political confidence, asking why the governor would consider switching parties if he believed he enjoyed genuine popularity. He suggested that the governor’s interest in the APC may have stemmed from dissatisfaction with the state of the PDP.

“It’s misleading for Adeleke to overestimate his political influence when, after nearly three years in office, his administration has proven to be a significant setback to the state’s development,” Olabisi added.
