Sh*ckwaves Hit PDP: Wike Endorses Tinubu, Party Loyalists Demand Sanctions

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stirred major controversy by openly endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office—despite still being a high-profile figure within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike made his declaration during a blunt and unapologetic media chat in Abuja, where he vowed to not only back Tinubu in 2027 but also to spearhead the president’s re-election campaign in Rivers State.

“I speak the truth without fear. I will support Tinubu’s second term, and I’ll lead the campaign in Rivers,” Wike declared.

His endorsement has triggered a wave of criticism and renewed debate over loyalty, party discipline, and the fractured state of Nigeria’s opposition politics.

Wike, a former Rivers State governor and one of the PDP’s most influential figures, stood firm on his position.

“I’m not a liability—I’m an asset. Like it or not,” he said, daring the party to take action against him.

Analysts are divided: some view Wike’s move as a calculated political strategy, while others see it as a blatant act of provocation that tests the PDP’s authority.

Known for his outspoken style and dramatic political moves, Wike has once again seized national attention from his current post as FCT Minister.

While some within the PDP are calling for sanctions, the party leadership remains divided between acting decisively or avoiding deeper internal fractures.

Umar Bature, the PDP National Organising Secretary, suggested no disciplinary action is currently planned.
“Who will remove him? He’s just expressing his views. Let’s not escalate this unnecessarily,” he said.

However, Timothy Osadolor, the PDP’s Deputy National Youth Leader, dismissed Wike’s remarks as irrelevant.
“Serious members of the PDP shouldn’t be distracted by Wike. He’s not worth the trouble,” Osadolor said.

The party appears caught between reining Wike in or tolerating his influence for political expediency.

During the media session, Wike threw down the gauntlet:
“I challenge anyone in PDP to suspend me—they’ll regret it.”

He also doubled down on his support for Tinubu, expressing loyalty in return for his appointment as Minister.
“Tinubu appointed me FCT Minister. I won’t let anyone dismantle our political structure. I have character,” he stated.

Opposition figures have condemned Wike’s actions as a betrayal. Ikenga Ugochinyere of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) accused Wike of being a covert agent for the APC.
“Wike is Tinubu’s hatchet man. He’s not one of us,” he claimed.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) also weighed in.
“Tinubu’s re-election isn’t guaranteed,” said NNPP spokesman Ladipo Johnson. “By 2027, Nigerians will judge based on real outcomes.”

However, some insiders admit that disunity within the opposition is strengthening Tinubu’s hand.

“Wike’s actions expose our internal divisions. If we don’t fix this, we’re handing Tinubu 2027 on a silver platter,” a PDP source warned.

Elder statesman and PDP leader, Chief Bode George, strongly rebuked Wike, likening his remarks to a betrayal of the party’s legacy.
“He’s the same age as my first child. Saying the PDP didn’t make him is appalling,” George said.

While some party members push for Wike’s and Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s expulsion, others fear it could further damage the PDP’s already fragile chances in 2027.
“Wike’s grip on Rivers politics is firm. Removing him could cost us dearly,” a senior PDP official admitted.
