Wike, who made the remarks during Anyanwu’s 60th birthday celebration and book launch, encouraged the PDP National Secretary not to succumb to fear or intimidation.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike stated:
“My friends and I celebrate your 60th birthday and commend your well-earned position as the substantive National Secretary of the PDP.
I’m impressed by the large turnout here—it proves you are truly loved by the people.
Let me assure you that we, your loyal friends, will continue to stand by you no matter the noise from detractors.”
Encouraging Anyanwu to be confident and assertive, Wike added:
“When you fight and win, you don’t go begging. You’ve emerged victorious—let those concerned approach you, not the other way around.
You have allies like me—so stand tall and fear nothing. We’ve won battles before, and we’ll do it again.
They may be unhappy, but we’re rejoicing. As it pains them, it sweetens us!”
Wike emphasized that a person’s true worth lies in their character, not in wealth or material generosity:
“What defines a man is his integrity, not his money or the food he gives. Without character, your wealth means nothing.”
He recalled advising Anyanwu to stay firm during internal party disputes, warning that lack of consistency could lead to failure:
“I told him plainly—don’t go left today and right tomorrow. If you’re not ready to stand firm, don’t start the fight.
When governors and party forces are against you, only firmness wins. He assured me he’d stand tall—and he did.”
Wike praised Anyanwu’s consistency and appreciated former Senate President Bukola Saraki for recognizing Anyanwu’s steadfastness.
He concluded by referencing a touching moment with Anyanwu’s mother:
“His mother recently called me, saying, ‘My son, I’m proud that people like you make bold decisions and stand their ground without fear of disgrace.’”
