The party also intends to refer the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for possible prosecution following their refusal to appear before the panel set up to investigate them.
According to Vanguard, the three officials — Gabam, National Auditor Nze Nnadi Clarkson, and National Youth Leader Uchechukwu Chukwuma — failed to honour the invitations from the committee probing allegations of gross financial misconduct, including embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds amounting to over ₦1 billion.
The probe report was presented to the Acting National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Abubakar, by the head of the five-member committee, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar-Sadick Liman. He noted that among the three accused, only the suspended National Auditor showed up before the panel, while the National Organizing Secretary also refused to appear despite repeated invitations.
Liman recalled that the NWC had inaugurated the Disciplinary Committee on July 4, 2025, to investigate a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy, fraud, and theft against the accused. The Committee was mandated to:
-
Investigate breaches of the party’s 2022 amended constitution,
-
Review the party’s financial records and audit reports submitted to INEC,
-
Recommend reforms to prevent future financial abuse.
The panel began its work on July 5, 2025, and invited all concerned officials, including the accused, members of the NWC, the Chairman’s aides, contractors, and the party’s external auditor. Despite non-compliance by some key figures, the Committee stated it gathered substantial testimonies and documentary evidence.
The report concluded with wide-ranging recommendations, urging the party to act decisively to restore accountability and integrity within its leadership. Liman emphasized that implementing the committee’s findings would not only reposition the SDP but also serve as a national example of responsible political leadership.
The NWC had earlier suspended Gabam, Clarkson, and Chukwuma over the alleged diversion of over ₦1 billion in party funds, and mandated the panel to submit its findings within 14 days.
