Lawmakers cautioned that failure to address the situation could trigger retaliatory actions.

During plenary, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central, expressed concern over how South African authorities have handled the crisis, stating that Nigeria has options if the attacks persist.

He warned that Nigerians could respond by taking action against South African interests, noting that South Africans live and operate not only in Nigeria but across the continent.

Ningi stressed that if the violence continues unchecked, Nigerians may be forced to respond in kind.

In a similar vein, Senator Adams Oshiomhole called on the Federal Government to take decisive steps in response to the attacks.

Speaking during the same session, he suggested that Nigeria consider measures against South African businesses operating in the country, including firms like MTN and DStv.

Oshiomhole argued that Nigeria must respond firmly to what he described as repeated hostility toward its citizens, adding that economic countermeasures could compel South African authorities to take the issue more seriously.

He maintained that while criminal acts should be handled through legal channels, the killing of Nigerians under such circumstances is unacceptable and must not be tolerated.
