The development comes barely two days after Jonathan revealed that he was consulting widely over the possibility of contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Jonathan made the disclosure on Thursday while addressing a delegation of supporters who visited his Abuja office to encourage him to join the 2027 presidential race.
Responding to the appeal, the former president said seeking the nation’s highest office was a serious undertaking that required careful consultations and reflection.
He stated, “You are asking me to come and contest the next election. The presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely.”
Meanwhile, a suit seeking to stop Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election is currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The case was instituted by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi, who is asking the court to declare the former president constitutionally barred from seeking the office again.
On April 28, Justice Peter Lifu ordered that hearing notices be served on all defendants in the matter.
The plaintiff is seeking an order restraining Jonathan from presenting himself to any political party as a presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections.
