His release was confirmed by his estranged wife, Mrs Lami Odiniya, who said the incident stemmed from ongoing family tensions after the collapse of their 32-year marriage.
Odiniya was initially held at the Wuye Divisional Police Headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, May 9, after a viral video showed Ilebaye appearing distressed with visible facial injuries.
Mrs Odiniya alleged that the confrontation began when Ilebaye visited her father’s residence at Royal Anchor Estate to see her younger brothers ahead of her 24th birthday celebration.
She further explained that the situation escalated into a disagreement over the children’s upbringing and parental authority.
According to her account, the two younger boys, aged 11 and 14, were briefly handed over to her following Odiniya’s arrest around 2:30 a.m.
However, she stated that police later enforced an existing court order and directed that the children be returned to their father’s custody.
“At about 9:00 a.m., the Police ordered the boys’ return to their father’s home, citing the existing court order,” she said.
Police officers had earlier intervened at the residence, reportedly rescuing Ilebaye and her siblings after initial resistance and a confrontation involving security dogs.
Following the incident, Ilebaye was taken to the NNPC Hospital in Abuja for medical attention.
