The family of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission of breaching his constitutional rights by allegedly denying him medical attention and restricting food deliveries during his detention.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Thursday, the family claimed that El-Rufai was still being held by the anti-corruption agency despite a court ruling that granted him unrestricted access to his medical team.

They stated that his personal physician visited the ICPC headquarters around 3 p.m. on May 15 to brief him on the results of recent medical examinations.

According to the family, officials of the commission refused to allow the doctor access to El-Rufai, insisting that approval from the ICPC chairman was necessary before any meeting could take place.

The family described the action as a clear violation of the court order and an infringement on his fundamental human rights.

The statement also alleged that El-Rufai’s wife, Aichatou El-Rufai, was denied entry when she arrived around 7 p.m. with his dinner.

They claimed ICPC officials informed her that meals were not allowed into the facility after 6:30 p.m. due to internal regulations.

Condemning the situation, the family said no lawful detention should prevent access to healthcare or basic family support because of arbitrary administrative rules.

They further accused the commission of using “intimidation disguised as protocol” and demanded that all constitutional rights owed to the former governor be fully respected.

“We will no longer tolerate this pattern of intimidation masked as procedure. The ICPC must operate within the laws it is mandated to enforce,” the statement said.

The family added that efforts were still being made to ensure El-Rufai received his meal.
