Governor Fubara’s administration has been marked by prolonged political tensions, particularly his strained relationship with Wike and factions of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the FCT Minister.

In a statement he personally signed on Wednesday night titled “My Decision to Withdraw from the Rivers State Gubernatorial Primaries,” Fubara announced his withdrawal from the race.

He explained that the decision followed wide consultations with family members, political allies, and close associates, adding that he would support whoever eventually emerges as the party’s governorship candidate.

Fubara further stated that his action was guided by the need to prioritize peace, stability, and unity in Rivers State over personal political ambition.

Reacting to the development, the APC Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Chibuike Ikenga, said during an interview on ARISE Television that the governor’s decision was based on mutual agreement and in the overall interest of the state.

Ikenga insisted that neither Wike nor any external influence played a role in the decision regarding Fubara’s political future.

He said although Wike remains a dominant political figure in Rivers State and Nigeria, he does not dictate decisions within the state’s APC structure.

According to him, party members collectively agreed on a new political direction, which ultimately informed Fubara’s withdrawal in the interest of peace and progress in the state.
