Fayose restated his stance during another interview on ektv, acknowledging the controversy his remarks generated but insisting he stood by what he said.
He said he spoke based on his experience as a former governor, stressing that state leaders are responsible for escalating security challenges beyond their control to the federal government for intervention.
Fayose had earlier alleged during an interview on Channels Television that the kidnapping of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area may have been orchestrated and suggested possible involvement of Governor Makinde. He further claimed the incident could have been politically motivated to discredit President Bola Tinubu.
Reiterating his position on ektv, Fayose said he had no regrets over his comments.
“People have been abusing me about what I said about Seyi Makinde… I mean everything I said,” he stated, speaking in a mix of Yoruba and English.
He argued that security matters typically escalate from local to state and federal levels, adding that governors cannot deny responsibility for managing security allocations and challenges within their states.
Fayose also criticised calls for the resignation of President Tinubu over insecurity, urging Nigerians to wait until the 2027 elections to express their dissatisfaction through the ballot rather than politicising security incidents.
He maintained that his comments were based on his personal assessment of the situation and insisted he would not withdraw them.
