Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has strongly condemned critics over allegations linking former Zamfara State Governor, Abdullaziz Yari, to gold smuggling.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The controversy followed viral social media videos suggesting that Yari was connected to a gold trafficking case, which surfaced after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) intercepted 22.2 kilograms of gold valued at ₦4.4 billion at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

Reacting on his handle, Fani-Kayode described the allegations as false and called on those spreading them to be ashamed of their claims, insisting that efforts to tarnish Yari’s image would fail.

He said the reports were malicious and part of a deliberate attempt to damage the reputation of a “good man.”

Fani-Kayode wrote that there was no truth to the claim linking Senator Yari to the intercepted gold, adding that the narrative was “false, nonsensical, and malicious.”

He argued that attempts to destroy reputations are not new but rarely succeed, insisting that destiny cannot be altered by false accusations.

He further stated that those responsible for spreading the claims should be ashamed of themselves for promoting what he described as fake news.

Meanwhile, Fani-Kayode also made fresh political remarks, accusing former presidential candidate Peter Obi of betrayal and predicting that he would eventually abandon former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He referenced the decision of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) at its national convention to zone its presidential ticket to the South for a single four-year term, a move reportedly supported by Kwankwaso.

Fani-Kayode, however, urged Kwankwaso not to rely on Obi’s commitment to a one-term agreement, claiming the former Anambra governor has a history of political realignments.

He alleged that Obi has moved across multiple political parties over the years and cannot be trusted to stick to agreements.

According to him, Obi would eventually abandon Kwankwaso just as he has done with past allies.

He also expressed confidence that the opposition’s strategy would fail, insisting that President Bola Tinubu would defeat any challenge in the 2027 election.

Fani-Kayode further argued that attempts to divide votes in the South would not succeed and would not prevent the current administration from completing another term.
