The non-governmental organization, Face Of Waziri-Nigeria (FOWN), expressed concerns on Thursday regarding purported confidential efforts aimed at pressuring at least two Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) to resign.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The group’s Director General, Comrade Bukky Adeniyi, released a statement in Lagos, emphasizing the potential impact such resignations could have on the tribunal’s effectiveness…CONTINUE READING

Adeniyi pointed out that if the Justices resign, the process of finding replacements could exceed the time frame allowed by the Supreme Court. This, in turn, could lead to the case becoming void due to surpassing its statute of limitations.

FOWN alleged that there is a hidden agenda by President Bola Tinubu to encourage the Justices to resign, with the intention of delaying the resolution of the case beyond the 180-day time limit set by the constitution.

Adeniyi stated, “At the moment, Tinubu is pressuring the tribunal. He wants two judges to withdraw or resign from the panel. A particular Governor, formerly with the PDP but now in APC with Tinubu’s blessing, from the South-South, is delegated to use documents of past money exchange between the government of that state and one or two of the justices as proof to harass and intimidate them, in an attempt to influence the tribunal’s judgment in their favor.”

FOWN raised questions about the credibility of using past financial transactions to blackmail the Justices and criticized the recent move by the counsel to the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to subpoena the institution on the need to verify documents relating to his attendance at Chicago State University.

Abubakar’s petition requested the court to issue a subpoena to the corporate representative of Resident Chicago State University to provide deposition on specified topics.

The institution is expected to testify regarding Mr. Tinubu’s assertions about his educational history and attendance at Chicago State University.
