After a series of consultations and meetings with the peace and reconciliation committee as well as state security authorities, the two conflicting communities formally endorsed the ceasefire agreement in Abakaliki.
The agreement was officially presented and read out to the involved parties by Dr. Donatus Ilang, the Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution of the state.
The terms of the agreement emphasize the immediate cessation of hostilities, with both parties agreeing to collaborate with the state government’s peace and reconciliation committee to find a lasting resolution to the dispute.
The statement released by the committee also commended the dedication of the security chiefs in facilitating the resolution of the conflict and participating in the agreement signing.
Reverend Father Charles Otu, a committee member, emphasized the importance of upholding the ceasefire and emphasized that all parties must adhere to the terms of the agreement.
