In an open letter addressed to the president on Monday, Lukman explained that he chose to make the letter public due to his lack of direct access to the president, having resigned from his position within the APC National Working Committee (NWC).

He acknowledged that even during his tenure as an NWC member, it was challenging to communicate with the president.

Considering his disagreement with the nomination of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the role of National Chairman of APC, Lukman stated that he did not expect the president to be receptive to his concerns.

Lukman highlighted the potential consequences of these “disturbing signals,” suggesting that they could lead to more significant problems and erode the electoral viability of the APC as a political party.

While acknowledging Tinubu’s authority and dedication to the nation’s welfare, Lukman expressed unease over certain decisions made by the president within the short period since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

He focused on the appointment of Dr. Ganduje as the National Chairman of the APC, a choice that shocked many party members.

Despite the corruption allegations against Dr. Ganduje, Tinubu’s selection of him for such a prominent position, disregarding the provisions of Article 31.5(i) of the APC constitution, raised concerns within the party.

Lukman noted that this decision, among others, had led to discomfort among loyal party members and called on the president to reconsider such choices to maintain the integrity and strength of the APC.
