The Sahel transcends national borders and historically, some Sahel countries share strong bonds that connect communities across their boundaries.
Unfortunately, this interconnectedness sometimes leads to extreme views expressed by individuals and community groups, posing challenges to the sovereignty of the nations involved.
Gombe State in North East Nigeria is often referred to as the “Jewel in the Savannah,” signifying its role as a bridge between the Sahara Desert in the North and the tropical Savannah in the South of Nigeria.
While this designation is fitting, it also underscores the significant responsibility that the state must shoulder in advocating for the welfare of the Sahel region within Nigeria and fostering collaboration with other Sahel countries.
