The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the state, Obo Effanga, made this declaration during an interactive session with religious leaders and faith-based organizations in Yenagoa on Wednesday.
Effanga emphasized INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election, clarifying that only voters accredited through the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would be allowed to cast their votes.
He also reminded the public that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) was ongoing and would conclude on October 11th, urging those who had not received their cards to visit their local INEC offices.
Effanga urged all stakeholders to encourage their candidates to maintain peaceful conduct during the election. He specifically called on religious leaders to convey this message to their congregations, including politicians who are also members of their churches.
The REC mentioned that 16 political parties had nominated candidates for the election.
Rev. Joseph Belema, one of the religious leaders present, commended INEC for its efforts and stressed the importance of a free, fair, and credible election as a means of selecting good leaders.
He also urged candidates not to view the election as a life-and-death contest, reminding them that only one person would ultimately be elected.
