He alleged that these soldiers might be attempting to conceal their potential involvement in illegal oil bunkering activities in these areas.
During a visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara made these claims when the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, met with him.
The governor suggested that the suspected officers were affiliated with a particular company in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area.
Fubara stated, “One particular issue we face here is the problem of oil bunkering. In certain parts of the state, particularly in Ahoada-East and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, we believe that most of the oil bunkering activities persist because there is cooperation between the army and major oil companies.”
He went on to explain that there is a road construction project underway in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, and whenever the contractor approaches a specific company and requests permission to proceed with the work, the military would intervene and attack the contractors.
Despite his efforts to resolve the issue, Fubara has been unsuccessful due to the vested interests of the officers involved. He called on Lagbaja to intervene and address the situation.
