Senator Ned Nwoko, a member of the Senate Committee on NDDC representing PDP-Delta North, expressed this during discussions with the media in Abuja on Sunday.
Nwoko highlighted that IOCs owe the commission hundreds of billions of dollars and assured that the committee will summon and scrutinize these companies to ensure compliance with their duties.
He emphasized that while some IOCs earn considerable profits in Nigeria, they have neglected their responsibilities towards the commission.
“We are adamant that they must fulfill their obligations as they owe hundreds of billions of dollars to NDDC. We will call them in, investigate their practices, and ensure they adhere to their responsibilities,” he stated.
The senator stressed that IOCs have legal obligations towards the host communities in Nigeria and affirmed that the committee will uphold accountability without compromising their stance.
Furthermore, Nwoko emphasized the different approach the tenth assembly and the committee aim to adopt compared to previous assemblies, stating that they are focused on enhancing the effective execution of projects by the NDDC.
