The legislative move also increased the years of service from 35 to 40, independent of civil service law provisions.
As a result, a prospective Secretary of the Commission must be a substantive Director on Grade Level 16 and, upon appointment, will hold the status of a Permanent Secretary.
Additionally, the Chairman and Commission members will now serve for five years, with the possibility of reappointment for a second term of another five years, subject to Kogi State House of Assembly ratification.
In a related development, the bill for the Kogi State Meat Hygiene and Inspection Law 2023 successfully passed its second reading. Advocates, led by Hon.
Sulyman Abdulrasaq, argued that the legislation, if enacted, would facilitate the sale of processed and wholesome meat in the state, establish standard abattoirs, and maintain accurate records of slaughtered animals.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, emphasized that the law would contribute to revenue generation, creating hygienic spaces for animal slaughtering in Kogi State.
